TLS or SSL Settings

  • Account Type: IMAP
  • User Name: Enter your full email address (example@domainname.com)
  • Password: Enter your email password
  • Incoming Mail Server: ssl-domain.bluechannel.com (You will need to replace “domain” with your domain name. Please contact us to verify server name and to activate)
  • Incoming Port Number: 993
  • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL (if SSL isn’t available or doesn’t work, select TLS)
  • Outgoing Mail Server: ssl-domain.bluechannel.com (You will need to replace “domain” with your domain name. Please contact us to verify server name and to activate)
  • Outgoing Port Number: 465
  • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL (if SSL isn’t available or doesn’t work, select TLS)

Please be advised that Outlook 2016 has updated how new accounts are set up, and you must COMPLETE ALL STEPS in order to send and receive email

  1. Open Outlook 2016
  2. Go to File -> Info -> Account Settings button -> Account Settings
  3. To set up a new email account, click on the New button.
    • Double click on your email address from the Account Settings panel if you just need to update the settings on an existing account.
  4. On the “Welcome to Outlook” pop up, add your email address in the field and under Advanced options, select the checkbox “let me set up my account manually”
  5. On the “Choose Account Type” pop up, select IMAP
  6. Enter the following information on the Internet E-mail Settings panel and click on the Connect button
    • Server Information
      • Account Type: IMAP
      • Incoming mail server: ssl-domain.bluechannel.com (You will need to replace “domain” with your domain name. Please contact us to verify server name and to activate)
      • Incoming Port #: 993
      • Outgoing mail server: ssl-domain.bluechannel.com (You will need to replace “domain” with your domain name. Please contact us to verify server name and to activate)
      • Outgoing Port #: 465
    • Logon Information
      • User Name: Enter your full email address (example@domainname.com)
      • Password: Enter your email password
      • Check the “remember password” checkbox
      • Do not check the “Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)” checkbox
  7. You should receive a Congratulations message indicating the account is set up.
    • Note: Outlook may display a pop up asking you to enter your username and password. Select the save password checkbox if this appears.
  8. Your account is now able to send emails; however, you’ll need to update the Advanced Settings to receive email.
    1. Go to File -> Info -> Account Settings button -> Account Settings
    2. Select your account from the list
    3. On the Account Settings panel, click on the More Settings button located in the bottom right corner.
    4. Make the following changes on the Outgoing and Advanced tabs
      • Outgoing Server tab
        • Make sure the “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” checkbox is checked
        • Make sure the “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” radio button is selected
      • Advanced tab
        • Incoming server (IMAP): 993
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL (if SSL isn’t available or doesn’t work, select TLS)
        • Outgoing server (SMTP): 465
        • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL (if SSL isn’t available or doesn’t work, select TLS)
        • Click OK to exit back to the Internet E-mail Settings panel.
        • Root Path Prefix/Root Path Folder: INBOX
  9. Click the “Next” button to complete your email account set up.
    • If you receive the “Congratulations!” message then your account was successfully set up.
    • If you receive an error message, double check your settings to make sure everything was entered correctly and try again. If you still receive an error message, download the BlueChannel screen share program and then contact BlueChannel Support to do a screen share session to resolve your issue.

Note: If you are having difficulty with your folders (can’t create custom folders, for instance), try disabling the “Show only subscribed folders” option in Outlook.

  1. Go to FOLDER -> IMAP Foldersfolder-imap-folder
  2. Uncheck “When displaying hierarchy in Outlook, show only the subscribed folders.”imap-folders
  3. Force Send/Receive within Outlook.
